"Reel Bad Arab"

In “Reel Bad Arab”, the artist wears a custom hijab with three emojis representing prevalent Western stereotypes of Arabs: being perceived as ‘rich’, ‘terroristic’, or ‘nomadic desert folk’. With the use of a minimalistic style, the artist integrates the emojis against a cool pink background, aiming for visual appeal while gently conveying the message. 

 

The title is also in reference to Jack Shaheen’s book and documentary: “Reel bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People”.
